The Erlang B traffic model has been established since early in the last century. It is used to explore the relationship between the traffic offered to a trunk group, the blocking that will be experienced by that traffic and the number of lines provided. Specifically, it is usually used to work out how many lines should be engineered in a trunk group.
Erlang B only holds true when the number of traffic sources of infinite. If there are a finite number of traffic sources, then the Engset traffic model should be used.
